Hot and Sunny in Turkey Today...

Today is another very hot and very sunny day! It has been 100+ everyday for at least the last week...crazy hot but loving it! I can handle the clear, blue skies and sunshine every, single day...really, I can.  It's the walking in the very hot temperatures that can be tiring and most def. sweaty! haha Today makes it 3 weeks that we have had Turkey as our home....each day seems to get a little easier, but I def. have my days that all  I want to do is go home to the States! The weekends seems to be hard for me, which is weird b/c J-Twice is home, but we usually end up finding something exciting to do.
Last weekend we tried our hand at a round of golf.  We really weren't too sure where the golf course was but we got on our bikes and made the trek....the LONG trek!!! Not exactly sure how long it was, but it was at least 2 miles we rode to get there and on the way there the left pedal on BOTH bikes broke!!!!!!! I was ahead of J at one point (almost to the course) and I look back and he was gone...at this point I kinda started freaking out cuz we were on an empty road and I wasn't too sure where he went. He eventually came off a side road and said his pedal broke off (his brand new bike) and not 2 minutes later, my pedal broke off the bike I was riding(a very old bike that was given to us)....weird huh!?! So we made it to the course and started our journey of golfing.  I have never played golf before (besides miniature golf, which doesn't really count) so this was going to be interesting!! We only kept score on one hole, and that was enough for me! haha I was about 4 or 5 over par...yeahhhh---rest of the day went the same way! But we enjoyed ourselves and that's all that matters. Needless to say, I will def. be signing up for those golf lessons! At least we look like pro's right...haha

Well.....that was about the extent of the excitement for the weekend.....hopefully this weekend will have some more exciting news...I'm going to look into what trips they are offering for Labor Day Weekend and see if we want to join in on one of those..should be fun, I will keep you updated!!
Talk to you all soon!!

Güle güle!!!!!

Annoyed!!!

Here we are, STILL waiting on the internet to work at the house!! I guess this is a way of really testing my patience! :) J-Twice found out today that what a superior told him about how to hook up the phone line (which we need for the internet) was incorrect. All this time we have been waiting and we didn't even complete the first step!! hahaha ohhh joys.

Anyways, not too much has been going on with us.  We are finally getting accustomed to the time change. I am still going a little bit stir crazy without a job (which I can not get until my Visa arrives---thank you Bolling for taking your sweet little time).  I have been spending WAY to much time flipping through the 8 channels we have on TV...stuff is really getting old....but i've also been spending time at the pool and wondering around base to see where i'd like to get an internet connection for the day!! lol (or afternoon, at least) J-Twice is adjusting to work....and PT!! Ha Ha So needless to say, not much has been going on (hence my lack of posts!)

Hopefully something exciting will be happening this weekend and I will have something good to write home about!

Keep on checkin' in! :)

We're Around!

Been MIA for a few days since we are in our house and dont have the internet hooked up yet!! Hopefully that will be fixed VERY soon because I am about to lose it with my lifeline!! haha Having to walk across base for internet is only good for so long!! lol Exercise is good, but the pool of sweat while walking there isn't always the greatest! :)

It has officially been a week since we have been here, in Turkey.  I am currently cooling down at Starbucks enjoying a nice, cold Caramel Frappaccino! :) Holla to all my Starbucks lovers!   I spent the afternoon sweating my rear end off at the pool and now I am waiting on J-Twice to get off work so we can make a visit to the commissary (grocery for all you non-military folk!)

Let's see…….what have we been up to….

We moved into our house yesterday---it is NOTHING like our house we had in DC---I LOVED that house--we sure were spoiled! Oh well---2 years….one week down---roughly 103 weeks to go! haha ((yes, i do have a countdown!) I spent the morning cleaning it and then our loaner furniture was delivered in the afternoon, and yes--when they say bare minimums, they give you bare minimums!! Thankfully, J-Twice's sponsor is allowing us to borrow an extra TV he has so we aren't just staring at the blank walls in the evening. LOL I will be, oh-so-HAPPY when our furniture arrives…we find ourselves longing for our comfortable couch!

It is customary around here to hire gardener's, maid's and nannies.  Needless to say the gardeners didn't wait but 2 minutes before the guys who delivered the furniture to leave and start banging on the door.  I ignored them and let J-Twice talk to them today when he came home for lunch (b/c yes, they were back at it again today).  I knew J would hire one, because of course it gets him out of the fun work!! (and myself too…no picking weeds for 2 yrs…YES.PLEASE!!) It's only $40/month so why.not!!! They do everything for you. We Americans are very rich compared to them, so we will do our part in helping them to live a better life.

There are lots of fun, adventurous trips offered here so we are trying to decide where we want to go first.  There are so many options!! We are looking forward to getting out there and exploring.  Don't you worry one bit, I will be posting about each trip!

Well, I am off to meet J-Twice for some grocery shopping…wooo hoooo!!!! haha I am SO over eating out!!!! This chick needs to start cooking dinner again! :)

Talk to you all soon!

Salt

Another couple days have come and gone...nothing too exciting has been going on.  Saturday we went to the pool for a couple hours, ventured out and found the library and bowling alley, got some cleaning products and such from the BX and just hung out.
The sign to the mall, not my pic, but Google's :)
Sunday we were offered a ride to the mall again to go see a movie, so we saw Salt.  There were a few scenes filmed in DC, so it had me missing a city I never thought I would miss! ha ha

I mean, who wouldn't miss a view like this!?! I sure do miss it!

Today was J-Twice's first day at work and of course we are still trying to adjust to the time change so that was lots of fun for him! The bowling alley has a 50's special on Monday nights which means games are only .50 cents!!!! J-Twice tried to beat me a few times so he was basking in that glory for a little bit.  We had fun laughing together, and that's all that matters!

Keep on checking in on us!

Exploring "The Alley"

We've been here a few days now, still staying in temporary lodging so that we had "entertainment" for the weekend.  See, when we move into our house on Wed, we will not have a TV or the Internet just yet! They have loaner furniture that we will use until our furniture and such arrives sometime in October *yes, you may freak out now--b/c I am!!* but that does not include a TV! We are looking into getting one...even though we only get a total of about 8 channels, period! And nothing is up to date like back home!

Anyhow---while we have been trying to adjust to the time change, it has not been easy!!! We are 7 hrs ahead of the time we are used to so it's been tough! J-Twice will have a hard time getting up for work Monday morning! :)

We have been to "The Alley" right outside the gates of the base.  Our second night here, our sponsor took us to dinner at a Turkish restaurant that is a favorite around here.  It's called "Moonlight" and I actually enjoyed it! I had Chicken Schnitzel, which can easily be described as a fried, flattened chicken breast. J-Twice had Chicken Tava (which looked like pieces of chicken in tomato soup to me!) He says it is very tasty.  They have cheesy bread that is served with a jam/honey combo or a garlic sauce....I have been tasting that jam/honey combo on that bread since we left!! ha ha Most definitely a place we will return to!

After dinner, we walked along the alley to see all the shops they offer.  There are tons of furniture stores, carpet stores (their specialty), suit stores, and such. We also found the hair salon woo hoo!!! the prices are VERY cheap, so here's to hoping they do a decent job!

The next day we were offered to ride along to the mall with one of the guys J-Twice will be working with.  We weren't really sure what to expect but it was an experience! I now know how people who visit America and can't read or speak English feel like.  (needless to say, I went to the library today and rented some CD's on learning to speak Turkish). Some familiar places were Gap, Polo, Burger King, McDonald's, and Sabarro! LOL

Today, we ventured on over to the pool and got a little bit of sun for a few hours, found the bowling alley(they have decent food there!! lol) and the library....each day continuing to find more!

Stay tuned!

Oh yes...and I get to look at these daily---def. a change from DC! :)

Getting Here

And the time has come that we begin another journey in the life of the Air Force.

Just three weeks ago, we were told we were moving to Turkey.  At first, I was SO upset...how in the world could I be THAT far away from my family!?!? But the more I thought about it, the more I had to realise this could be the chance of a lifetime. How many other people get to say they lived in a different country for 2 years? So here we go...

We departed the DC area on 3 Aug...if I could have completely skipped the "see ya later"s I think I would have been JUST fine!! :) My mom and aunt came out to visit with us for the last few days we were in the states.  Even though they were stuck at the hotel while J-Twice and I were busy on base finishing up stuff, I totally enjoyed our time together! We all know J-Twice wasn't loving it as much as I was but that's the life he gets to live! ha ha

So we start....this was my first time traveling overseas so I really wasn't sure what to expect.  We board the plane, which was huge, and start our journey. Dinner (or what they called dinner, anyways) was served not too long after take off.  Our choices were "Chicken or Pasta" and both J-Twice and I chose "chicken"..gross!!!!!!!! At least, I thought so! The best part might have been the brownie that was served for dessert! James enjoyed it all.  During this 7 hour flight, they were showing a few different movies to choose from: Toy Story 2, Shrek the Third, Cop Out, The Losers, Entourage, and a couple others---well lucky me, my tv screen was not working!!! I could get the sound in my headphones but could not view the screen...."boy, oh boy, this is going to be a long flight" is all I could think of.  I couldn't see J's screen, but I could see the person in front of me---so whatever movie she watched, I watched also! At least in between my dozing off.  We landed in Germany about 6:30am and head to find our shuttle. The first thing we see as we walk out the door:

MCDONALDS!!!! Ha ha...I had to do a quick mind check of  whether or not we were still in the States or Germany!
We rode through the country and a little town in Germany on our way from Frankfurt to Ramstein. It was just like the movies: small roads and very fast drivers!! Once we arrived to Ramstein to catch our flight to Turkey, we had a long while to wait for our flight.  We were both extremely tired and just ready to be here already!

We boarded our next flight and was very happy to know it was our last. This plane was much smaller than the one we flew to Germany on and I felt like I was sitting in a straight jacket.  We had next to no leg room and I got stuck with a middle seat...yuck! Needless to say, I skipped lunch on that flight and slept the entire way! I had to drown out the sound of a screaming baby the entire flight one way or another! We finally reached Turkey and taxi'd on the run-way for what felt like 30 mins SLOWLY!! I wanted to get out and walk, I would have made it to my destination a lot faster! ha ha

And so our adventures begin!!

Stay tuned!
