Most Prized Possession

Here in Turkey, we have a horrible time keeping the shelves stocked in the commissary (grocery for you non-military folks). If you remember this post about not having meat, that wasn't the last time that occurred...it seems to be a regular occurrence now a days. Rather frustrating, really.

Anyhow, with it being Thanksgiving in just two days I will let you guess what the most prized possession currently is....

You think you know??...

Should I take bets?.....

Okay, I'll tell you now...

It's CANNED PUMPKIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This lovely little can, right here, is what EVERYONE is looking for.

thank you, Google, for the pic
Quite frankly, because I LOVE Pumpkin and REFUSE to go a holiday without Pumpkin Pie...I picked up a few cans at least a month ago. And no, I am not sharing or giving up the extra can that I have. Well, okay..maybe if you offered the right amount of money for it (of course, by that I mean like $10,000 or more). So, sorry that others on base will be going without it, but I will be baking not just one, but two, of these amazing beauties for Thanksgiving dessert tomorrow..

again, thanks Google.
Which reminds me, I need to check to see if the Commissary has whipped cream tomorrow. ha ha I have one can but may need another. After all, my slices are usually as big as the one pictured above. :)

Another delicious pumpkin dessert I LOVE is the Pumpkin Roll. And yes, I will be enjoying a slice (or two) of that as well.

Go ahead and judge me.

yes, you got it..Google again
You would do the same if you had cans of Pumpkin too!

Happy Pumpkin eating (or dreaming)!!!

**UPDATE** I had a couple friends on base that were needing some pumpkin and since I knew I was going to have some leftover, I decided to be an awesome friend and fulfill their pumpkin needs. Ha ha And I didn't even charge them the $10,000 I said it was worth! :) Meanwhile, I hope the pies and roll I made taste as delicious as they smell!

What to write...

I'm really at a loss for what to write here. There really hasn't been anything too exciting going on. The last couple weeks have been slow but at the same time, passing by rather quickly. I find it hard to believe that Thanksgiving is actually THIS Thursday!!!
This past Friday, we attended an ALS (Airmen Leadership School) Graduation. Unfortunately, I missed James' graduation because I was still home in Ohio when his occurred. But our buddy 'ol pal, Kevin, graduated this time so we went to cheer him on. It's always fun to see everyone looking nice in their Blues, and any girl loves an excuse to put a dress on. Right??? Okay, maybe not. But either way, it was fun! :)

Any many congrats to Kevin, for being awarded The Distinguished Graduate and The Diamond Sharp awards.
Kevin and his wife, Erin
The week before, Erin had just returned from a 6 month deployment (or vacation, either way! ha ha) so we all went to Karaoke night on base and had a good time. The boys serenaded us girls with "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". Rather comical if you ask me and I would PAY to have them do it again and actually record it! I am almost positive, I will get them to do it again soon! ha ha (Even though they claim us girls have to do a song first, but we'll see about all that!) I have warned that I only karaoke from my seat, and that's without a microphone! (Or with a Ketchup bottle, either or) Just sayin', it's probably better for all of us that way!

Okay, well ummm..I don't know what else to tell ya'll...so I will leave this until Thursday when I'll be back to wish ya'll a "Happy Thanksgiving!!" and to tell you all about ours. :)

We're Alive...

I am officially a blog-slacker. It's been about 6 weeks since I have posted any kind of update.

Needless to say, there really has not been that much going on.  But I also have missed blogging some important events.
James was finally promoted to Staff Sergeant at the beginning of October. Yay for me and shopping money, ha ha. Totally kidding. He's enjoying the extra responsibility that comes with that extra stripe. (but only sometimes-ha)

My friend, K, had her baby at the end of September so I've been enjoying my "baby snuggling" with her. :) Us girls are back into a routine of getting out and about. Just a couple weeks ago we made an adventure downtown because we're all tired of being on this base. I think it's safe to say this little one enjoyed her time out..
I just love her face in this pic
Another highlight of October was Trick or Treat night...J-Twice was rather upset when I told him each child gets one piece of candy. I finally figured out this year why the candy always goes so quickly when he hands it out...he admitted to giving a handful to each child. Wow.
"Dexter" and "Waldo"
At first we had a lot of candy left and then we got bombarded with Turkish children. They are fun to watch because they don't really know about it, they just see all the American children going door to door and walking away with bags full of candy. A few of them learned "Happy Halloween" vs. "Trick or Treat", they don't wear costumes, and they just hold their hands out and put the candy in their pants pockets. :) Just another way to show the difference in all the cultures of the world.

That's about all of the excitement we have experienced here lately.  Not a whole lot going on.  On the other hand it's hard to believe that we have reached our 15 month mark of our time here in Turkey. That means we only have 9 months left, this time has flown by!!! I can not believe it's November already, where has the time gone!? We still have a lot more traveling that we would love to do so time needs to slow just a little bit.  It's in the plans to actually be able to go home for Christmas this year. Very much looking forward to that. We loved our time spent with our "military family" at the holidays last year but it will be nice to be with our family and friends back home. After the beginning of the year we will do some of our traveling and see what we can cross off our list. But most importantly, my parents are planning on visiting next Spring and I cant wait!!!! :) Should be a good time! And, after the beginning of the year, we should be finding out where our next adventure in this military life will be taking place! We're excited to see where the road leads us.

Okay, I don't really have anything else to update here, so stay tuned to see if I can actually keep up with this blog this month. Happy November to all my readers!
